A Stalkers Prayer

by W. Michael Seivwright
(Jedburgh, Roxburghshire)

For a clear blue sky and open spaces
and wild deer running in rugged places
For a steady hand and aim that's true
and the bonnie heathers purple hue
For the eagle soaring in the sky
and the lonesome curlews eirie cry
For the noble stag upon the Ben
and the gentle hinds down in the Glen
For black peat hags and granite rocks
where oftimes lies the old red fox
For the wind and rain upon your face
and the comfort of a quiet place
For shimming lochs and rushing burn
and something new round every turn
For the splendour of the setting sun
heartfelt thanks for the day thats done.
