This pic was taken in cardenden sometime in the 1940s.
The road you see at the bottom of the pic is the new road now leading to Bowhill.
Towards the top of the page is now the site for cooners shop which was better known as Tom Hendersons
and you can see the flats in the background which were Carden Castle Park

Double Block
by: Jackie Watson

First time I have visited this site and I was
disappointed on reading John Ross's notes on the Double B,lock, but as I read further down Hugh Bernard was spot on with his comments.

My sister Margaret was born in 11 Front Row in April 1952 we then we moved to Carden Avenue in December 1952 which Hugh said was to the right of this Double Block picture. And as Hugh said the Double Block was last to be demolished in the middle 1950s. I also have quite a few old photo's of Cardenden. Groups. Family. Cardenden United
Cardenden Rangers.

double block

My g.grandparents lived in the double block.
Anyone remember Sarah Jane Smith and her children.
Jack, Albert William and Jane.
They left Gateshead early 1900s to work the pit.
Thanks.

Double block
by: James Bernard [Tosh]

This pic was taken from the Kirkcaldy bus stop,Cluny Park is to the right and my great grandfather lived in number two [I think ]

I remember quite clearly those that helped to demolish the double block as they all blamed me.

Do any of you remember the gambling school to the rear of the Back row and Mid row at the back of the Andersons house in the back row

Well I was on look out for the police on top of the school wall. Got paid tuppence for this good money ?? bit bored I was, I shouted 'POLICE' and within seconds all had disappeared. I went on my way. WELL it came to be noticed that I did not sit down for a week. It was sore; still feel it yet!
