Forefathers Tears

by Roseanne Hamilton Ontario Canada.

Among green braes that once were free
brave clansmen fought for liberty
They spilled their blood on hallowed ground
as pipers played amid the sound
Of clashing swords and ghastly cries
beneath the dark grey highland skies.

Courageous Scots of long ago
you fought hard a vicious foe
Who'd steal our land and make us slaves
and send us all to early graves
Our heroes all now hung and drawn
their spirits veiled in misty dawn.

Forsaken now the cause of old
we cannot say that we are bold
No more the heroes of reknown
content now under British crown
Forefathers tears I here them weep
until we're free, they shall not sleep.
