New Short Syne

by Jon Campbell
(Scotland)

Should new acquaintance be remembered
On new days o' life?
Should new acquaintance be remembered
But definetly not wi' a knife?

Chorus:
For new short syne, my jo
For new short syne
We'll bagsy respect for right noo
And for new short syne

And surely ye'll be some respect
And surely I'll be mine!
An' we'll bagsy respect for right noo
And for new short syne

We twa are rinning aboot the braes
And we're pullin' the gowans fine!
An' we're wandering monys a weary foot
Sin' a few hours ago

We twa are paddlin' in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine!
But seas between us are really roarin'
Sin' a few hours ago

New life is startin' tae form
And new days are comin'!
An' noo ye are gettin' warm
And more folk are dyin'

And here's a hand, my trusty fiere
And gie's a hand o' thine!
An' we'll bagsy everything we can
For new short syne
