(Pensacola, Florida USA)

I was looking for recipes from Scotland and there you were. I was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, USA, but knew nothing of my Scottish ancestry until around fifteen years ago when curiosity completely got the best of me. I enlisted in the aid of Ancestry.com and I found my line going back to a Jacobite Rebel captured during the rising of the 1715 in the town of Preston, when he was "transported" to the Virginia Colonies in 1716. He married here in America and his son became one of the co-founders of a city here in the states known as Nashville, TN.

I then enrolled in the Clan Donald USA DNA Project where I discovered matches to many McDonalds both here in the USA and in Scotland.

Naturally this whole episode has been a turning point in my life even at 72 years of age.

My wife and I plan on coming to Scotland in the fall this year, but I have feeling that this will not be the only trip.

How wonderful!

What a great story. I too have strictly British ancestors, from all over the British Isles. I never thought of using Ancestry.com to try to trace my roots, since my family became estranged in the 1950's, and other than my brothers, I know of no surviving relatives. Since the advent of the "Outlander" books and subsequent TV show, I am particularly interested in my Scottish heritage.
