Naval Base Rosyth

by Sue
(Southsea)

In the early 80s I used to live at the Naval Base in Rosyth. My husband was in the Navy and based at HMS Caledonia. I was a young wife with 2 young children - and it was nice that I was surrounded by other naval families. I was one of the fortunate ones, as my husband was shore based, but it was hard for the girls whose husbands were at sea.

We used to explore some of the Fife towns and countryside on my husband's days off and also enjoyed going to Edinburgh and Stirling.

One of my memories was just how cold it was up there, but we came from Southsea where the climate was and is better.

We visited Scotland and Fife a few years ago, and apart from Dunfermline 'growing' - it brought back a lot of nice memories of Fife and the Naval Base at Rosyth.

I remember it well!

Hi Sue
My husband John and I used to run the Royal Sailor's Rest (Aggies) - so remember the naval base well. We left in 83 - so our paths might have crossed. Did you ever go into Aggies?
Thanks for sharing.
